We Put the World within Reach

Since 2010, we have worked with high-school students from around the US who are underrepresented in study abroad programs. We offer an innovative and holistic curriculum designed to expand students’ perspectives and ability to recognize those of others, build their capacity for resilience and empathy, and develop a roadmap for success beyond high school.

Pre-Departure Preparation

Before they board their flights, Wandering Scholars participate in a 2-week program designed to help them develop an understanding of their host country’s culture and history. This serves two main purposes: 1) to prepare them for meaningful cross-cultural experiences, and 2) to help them plan, develop, and complete documentation projects based on their in-country experiences.

In-Country Experiences

We provide full tuition for international travel with one of our partner organizations, on trips ranging from 2-4 weeks. During this time, Wandering Scholars continue working on their documentation projects, which can include photo/video essays, podcast episodes, cookbooks, or feature essays.

Re-entry Reflections

Upon returning from their travels, Wandering Scholars participate in a 2-week re-entry program that will allow them to finalize their documentation projects to share with their communities, and to reflect on their experiences in ways that will help them plan for a lifetime of engaged global citizenship.
