A unique and important feature of our program is that we pair each Wandering Scholar with a designated Travel Mentor. Our Travel Mentors serve as role models and support systems, helping our Wandering Scholars see the importance of international travel and to imagine the possibilities of becoming engaged, globally-minded citizens.

Typically, our travel mentors studied abroad in high school or college and can tap into the combination of nervousness, fear, and excitement they felt prior to their departures. They can also reflect on the challenges and highlights of their experiences abroad, to give our Wandering Scholars a sense of what is to come. And, ideally, Travel Mentors can share how they built on the intercultural communication skills, language competencies, and personal resilience developed while traveling to pursue globally-oriented educational and career opportunities.
